Changes to the temporary foreign worker program in Canada
Maximum Duration: The maximum period a foreign worker will be allowed to remain in Canada – total of four years. Once the 4 year period is over, the temporary worker would be required to leave the country and not allowed to return to work in Canada for at least four years (there are some exceptions to this regulation).
A 2 year ban for employers in violation: Employers that are found to be in violation of the new conditions, the employer could be banned from the foreign worker hiring program for 2 years.
Employment offer must be genuine: Job offers outlined under a labour market opinion must be validated and strictly adhered to by the employer.
Validity period of the Labour market opinion : After the issuance of a labour market opinion, the employer has 6 months to get a work permit issued. If not done within the six month period, a new labour market opinion will have to be obtained.
