This brought employment growth in the industry to 87,000 (+4.3%) over the past 12 months.<\/li>\n<li>Manufacturing employment held steady over the first two months of\u00a02011. Employment in the industry was up\u00a02.9% (+50,000) from February\u00a02010.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Geographically, the province of Alberta led the charge on positive employment statistics.<\/p>\n<p>Employment in Alberta increased for the second consecutive month, up\u00a014,000\u00a0in February. As a result, the unemployment rate edged down by\u00a00.2\u00a0percentage points to\u00a05.7%.<\/p>\n<p>Compared with February\u00a02010, when Alberta was near its employment-low following the labour market downturn, employment has grown by\u00a03.4% (+68,000), well above the national rate of\u00a01.9%. Several industries contributed to the year-over-year growth for the province, including manufacturing, natural resources, and professional, scientific and technical services.<\/p>\n<p>Following an increase of\u00a078,000\u00a0over the previous three months, employment in Ontario edged down in February. The unemployment rate also edged down to\u00a08.0%, the result of fewer people participating in the labour force.
