Canada Immigration backlog to be eliminated
It has been announced that almost 300,000 people who applied to come to Canada (prior to 2008) are having their applications returned.
These applicants have the option look at the new occupation list (29 occupations) and if their occupation is on the list, they can apply under the new regulations. A current occupation list and an assessment application is available on the Canadian Visa Services website at http://canada.canadianvisa.com/skilled-worker.
The move is expected to cost the Canadian federal government up to $130 million in refunded fees, but will also eliminate the backlog of skilled worker applications.

“Canada risks losing the global talent competition for the world’s best and brightest as potential immigrants choose to take their skills to other counties with more responsive immigration systems rather than remain in the queue to have their applications process in Canada,” the Canadian budget said.
Eliminating the backlog is only one of the major changes the government expects to make to the immigration system this year as it seeks to better align immigrant levels to economic needs.

In the first place, the backlogs were not the fault of the old applicants. Their professions were included in the list of in demand occupations at that time. If only their applications were processed according to schedule, these backlogs would not have happened. These people invested so much time, money and emotions hoping that their applications will eventually be approved. To be rejected in the end after so many years of waiting, is very cruel indeed! And we thought canada is a fair and just country!
