Canada Seen As The Most Positive Influence Globally [Infographic]
According to a survey from Ipsos MORI, the U.S. is being increasingly overlooked as having a positive influence on world affairs. The research polled 18,000 respondents across 25 nations, finding that only 40 percent of people think the U.S. has a strongly or somewhat positive influence on the world stage. That’s less than China whose global role is viewed favorably by 49 percent of people and ahead of Russia’s 35 percent. Canada was seen as setting the best example with 81 percent of respondents saying it had a positive influence on world affairs.
The U.S. image dropped 24 percentage points since last year’s ranking due to much of the world losing confidence in President Trump’s leadership as well as rising international skepticism about his “America First” policies. Generally, Canada, Germany and France are perceived as being relatively neutral countries that are standing firm amid a tidal wave of nationalistic populism. Amid the storm that is Brexit, the United Kingdom and the European Union are seen as having a positive influence by 57 percent of respondents each. Israel and Iran are at the bottom of the ranking with only 32 and 21 percent of people respectively viewing their global influence in a positive light. Read more…
