Canada welcomes historic number of newcomers in 2022
Thanks in great part to our immigration policies, Canada has recovered from the pandemic one of the fastest. By working, creating jobs, and supporting local companies, newcomers improve our communities and boost our economy. The Canadian government intended to welcome 431,645 new permanent residents in 2022 because they respect their contributions.
The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, stated today that Canada has surpassed its prior record from 2021 by achieving that goal. This is the highest influx of immigrants Canada has ever received in a single year. Prior to breaking its previous admissions record in 2021, Canada last accepted this many immigrants in 1913.
Without the staff at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), who consistently raise the processing threshold, this amazing accomplishment would not have been achieved.
