Canada’s Population Hits 40 Million, Fueled By Immigration
According to the most recent statistics from Statistics Canada, immigration has helped Canada’s population surpass 40 million.
Anil Arora, chief statistician of Statistics Canada, described this as a significant milestone for the country.
“It is a clear indication that Canada is still a vibrant, hospitable nation with a lot of potential. As we move into Canada Day, this is surely cause for celebration!”
With the strongest population growth among the G7 countries, 2.7%, Canada is defying the general trend of population reduction. In addition, that is Canada’s highest population growth since 1957, when immigration and the arrival of the Baby Boomers caused the population to increase by 3.3%. On its website, Statistics Canada states, “As we approach 40 million Canadians, the future of our population depends on the choices we make today.”
